Why Veles

Guardian of the Flock · Keeper of the Dead

Veles, is the ancient Slavic god of earth, wealth, trickery, and the underworld. He was the keeper of secrets, the shepherd of souls, and the patron of those who sought wisdom in shadowed places.

I was given the call sign “Veles” by friends in the Ukrainian 4th Ranger Regiment and the 82nd Air Assault Brigade for my fundraising efforts and quiet work on their behalf. Since then, I have tried to live up to it in spirit: to be a keeper of small, necessary deeds done out of sight, and a reliable friend in difficult hours.
